Think back: who was it that first inspired you, challenged you, and empowered to become everything you are today?
If you’re anything like us, that was a teacher. Because teachers are an amazing bunch: they shape our development, myth-bust our assumptions, and the best ones can spark a lifelong love of learning. But it’s not a path that comes with a lot of recognition, either – so few of them receive the thanks they deserve, or get to see the impact they’ve had on somebody’s life or career five, ten or fifty years later.
That’s why Scanning Pens is reaching out and asking you – our global EdTech community – to tell us about the teachers who’ve had a powerful impact on your life, so that we can celebrate them in our Spotlight a Teacher campaign!
Who can nominate a teacher?
Anybody and everybody! Whether you’re a student with a stellar teacher, a teacher with a truly next-level co-worker, or a parent who can see the effort that your child’s class teacher puts in every day of the week, we want to hear from you.
Your spotlight can be about any teacher, teaching assistant, or lecturer, at any school or college anywhere in the world. And it doesn’t matter when or where your paths crossed—from back in the day at the blackboard to work together on community projects, outreach and training, we just want to hear all about how they changed your story.
What are we looking for?
It’s really simple: we want to celebrate teachers who change lives.
…But that doesn’t mean we’re only looking for the educators who are making the headlines, scoring record numbers of top grades, or driving change on a district-wide scale.
We want to know about your personal heroes, too. Educators who go out of their way every day to make learning happen. Do you follow a real community champion who goes above and beyond to ensure every student has the best access to support? Or is your school lucky enough to have a true performer on the payroll, who’s made it their mission to captivate kids’ attention in every History class?
We’re looking for teachers who…
Support their communities.
Schools are at the heart of the local area, and when they work together with the places they’re made and the people who surround them, that’s when great things happen. Do you know a teacher who’s been totally dedicated to local fundraising initiatives this term, or one who's worked hard to break down inclusion barriers, to ensure everyone has access to education?
⭐ Encourage creativity!
It’s not easy to bring your A-game every day, but some teachers show up with enough creativity to inspire others too!
⭐ Give kids the best possible start.
Those first few years in education are vital, and preschool and kindergarten professionals are some of the most important people in a kid's life. It’s all about creating firm foundations, so that they can go on to achieve great things.
⭐ Go the extra mile for students with disabilities and inclusion.
Educators who work with students with disabilities and neurodiversities are our superstars at Scanning Pens… but outside of the Assistive Tech world, they’re often a school’s unsung heroes. We want to hear about the teachers who are changing the narrative for these learners, and supporting them to achieve their dreams.
⭐ Are EdTech experts!
This one’s close to our hearts too. Pandemic learning loss means that students need EdTech innovations like never before. Have you got a teacher who’s pushing the boundaries of innovation, making learning accessible and inclusive for all?
⭐ Have made a personal difference to you.
They might have given you some inspirational leadership or mentoring when you started your career, stepped in with some innovations when your child’s learning journey was interrupted, or made learning algebra feel fun and accessible for the first time ever. Maybe they even inspired you to be a teacher – but whoever they are and whatever they did, we want to know!
