Placing Orders

Can I place an order, including a trial order, via purchase order?

Yes schools, universities, colleges etc are able to do this. Please email a copy of the Purchase Order to [email protected]. We will then process the order for you, quoting the PO number. You will then be invoiced as normal.

If you want to take advantage of the 30 day trial then you can also create a PO in your system for this and send this over to us. It then means that the invoice for the trial pen quotes the correct PO number which helps your Finance Department to process payment if the trial is successful.

How does the 30 day trial for schools work?

Please go to www.scanningpens.co.uk, www.readerpen.com or www.examreader.com and click 'Request Trial’ on the drop down tab. Then select School. We will then process an order in our system for the trial pen which will be dispatched from our warehouse within 2-3 days. You will receive an invoice shortly after dispatch but this is not a commitment to purchase. If the trial is successful then please process the invoice as normal. If you wish to return the pen then please contact us and we will send Returns Instructions.

How does the 14 day trial for parents work?

Please go to www.scanningpens.co.uk, www.readerpen.com or www.examreader.com and click 'Request Trial’ and choose ‘Parent’. We will then process an order in our system for the trial pen. Prior to shipping we will call you to request credit card details and we will take payment for £1. The pen will then be shipped. Please contact us prior to Day 14 after you receive the pen and let us know if you wish to purchase the pen or return it. We will take payment for the remaining balance at that point or we will issue return instructions.

Pricing

Please note that the prices quoted on our website exclude VAT and shipping costs. Discounts are available for schools, universities and colleges if orders are placed for 5 pens or more.

How long will it take to receive my order?

Orders are usually delivered 3-5 days after being dispatched from our warehouse.

Can you please send a quote?

If you need a quote from us prior to purchase, then we can do this for you. Please email [email protected] and we will arrange this for you or contact us via livechat.

How do I upgrade my pen to the latest software?

Please go to www.readerpen.com and scroll down to the section called ‘Reader Pen Features’. Under the section called ‘Support’ you can click on the link to download the latest firmware.

What is the difference between the RP and the ER?

In simple terms the ReaderPen scans printed text, reads aloud or via headphones the text as it scans, and stores what it scans. The scanned text can then be sent as a text file via USB to your computer and then be inserted into other documents such as Word or Powerpoint. The ReaderPen also has a voice recorder and a dictionary function, including English, French and Spanish.

The Exam Reader is the orange pen. This pen scans printed text and reads aloud or via headphones as it scans. The key difference between the ExamReader and the ReaderPen is the fact that the ExamReader does not store anything.

Can the pens scanned printed text on paper?

Yes the pens are designed to scan printed text on paper, but not on a screen.

How to scan?

Make sure the pen left/right hand setting is properly set up. To do this go to the main menu – settings – left/right handed. When the pen touches the paper the trigger is activated and the scanning light comes on. Ensure to hold the pen rather straight up from the paper (80-90 degrees angle). Starting about 1 cm to the left of the word or sentence you want to scan, start moving along the text line.

My pen is reading gibberish – whats wrong?

There are several reasons why this might be the case:

  • The pen may struggle with some fonts or with coloured paper.
  • Ensure that the pen is set to read in the correct language.
  • Check that the pen is set up for left or right handed use.
  • The pen is being held in the correct way (see ‘How to Scan’ section).

The sound/speech volume is very low?

Check volume settings in Reading Settings. If there is a lot of background noise, headphones may be required.

How does the Exam Lock work?

To enable the ReaderPen to be used in tests, it is possible to lock down some functions within the pen, namely the access to dictionaries and any stored content (text and audio files). Exam lock is protected by a pin code to prohibit the student unlocking the pen during the test. The same pin is used to unlock to normal mode.

Scan To File?

Scan to file is used to capture printed text inside the ReaderPen. The text is stored in txt files in the memory. The text can be read out loud if required, and also single words can be selected and looked up in the dictionary. The files can also be uploaded to a computer.

Where can I get more information and support?

For instant support please go to our Live Chat facility (located in the bottom right hand corner on all our website pages). If you prefer, then we love to talk to our customers. Simply call our team and ask away! We will be happy to help! You can also review our Educational Resources by clicking here .

Returns

How do I go about returning a pen at the end of the trial?

Please contact us prior to the end of the trial and let us know if you wish to return the pen. Please let us know the reason for return at this time. We will then issue a returns document called an RMA. The pen should be posted back to us recorded delivery (trackable) to the address stated on the RMA document. Do not return the pen to our warehouse. The invoice will be credited when we receive the pen back. Alternatively, if you have purchased the pen by credit card or Paypal then the monies will be returned to you at this point.

What do I do if the pen is faulty?

If the pen is not working as you thought it should then first of all please give us a call and we will do our best to help or contact us via Live Chat. If we believe that the pen is faulty then we will create a Returns Document – see Returns section above. When we receive the pen back we will test it and send a replacement if a fault is found. If the pen is not faulty then we will return the pen to you.
