Julia Clouter, Head of Education
I am Julia, head of education services at Scanning Pens, and I am an experienced special education needs coordinator (SENCO) with 25 years of teaching, training and advising experience. I specialize in literacy support but have also spent much of my teaching career working with students of all ages supporting learning, behavior and wellbeing.
I hope that you will investigate the resources that I have created and find my supporting materials for teachers, SENCo’s and parents helpful. You will find a wealth of materials including case studies and research, guidebooks and resources to help you achieve some fantastic outcomes for your learners.
My mission is to help to close the reading gap. All learners should be able to access, enjoy, achieve and succeed regardless of challenge and additional needs. I believe that literacy difficulties can be explored and supported with compassion and understanding no matter how difficult the challenge may be.
Access to the right assistive technology and learning how to use it productively can vastly improve opportunities to succeed so we are delighted that you are here and exploring our resources.
Find me on Twitter @JuliaClouter supporting, encouraging and sharing. Let’s continue the conversation #SENCOHour and focus on creating solutions together. I am always happy to help if you need to ask a SENCo.
Kristen Koeller, US Director of Education
As a dedicated educator with over 19 years of experience in teaching and specialist roles, I have served in a range of diverse classrooms and schools. I am CERI (Center for Effective Reading Instruction) certified and AOGPE (Academy of Orton Gillingham Practitioners and Educators) trained.
I believe the first best way to support striving readers is with high quality literacy instruction. While learning to read, write, and spell, a toolbox of assistive technology supports helps level the playing field for all students so they can show what they know and effectively learn grade level content.
My passion is supporting students with diverse learning profiles. I value the opportunity to support educators and school administrators by raising awareness about assistive technology, dyslexia, reading science, and tools to help close the reading gap.
